You are a perfect imperfection
Evident in your truth
Even though your honesty is not pretty
Even though your white is gray you don’t shy away from the dirty
Hidden hurt under the surface
Still you seek to believe your worthiness
You’re are a perfect imperfection
Dress from head to tail in mistakes
Refusing to remove the waste
Fighting life everyday for breaks
And to be honest my instincts told me just to run away
But heavy feet forced my hesitance to stay
And while I play with heart and head and I soak in the words you said
I try to hold back my judgment
And pray this choice won’t leave me stuck
You are a perfect imperfection
Contagious essence
Just a blessing to be in your presence
As I learn more from life
With you my teacher opening my eyes
As in the midst of speaking you open my eyes to tolerance
You are a perfect imperfection
So willing to be taught
So willing to be lead
So willing to be fought for
Now you know there no coincidence
Only meetings that God meant to happen
If the world would stop their lips from flapping
They would experience this
You are a perfect imperfection
That keeps me from trying so hard
That stops me from holding my breath
That stops me from squeezing into jeans
That stops me from trying to find meaning in standards
You are perfect in every way possible
In every way attainable
In every way real
In every way manageable
Hopefully imperfection will be the new black
And maybe next season everyone will be wearing that
But even if they don’t I know you’ll be in style
And we’ll wear matching flaws and realistic lives
And you in perfect imperfection
And I in perfect imperfection
And we will be a perfect lesson
How perfect
