Now as a poor man-
he lays cold and hungry on the street.
The once-defender of our freedom,
Now walks a hard path,
with no shoes on his feet..
THEN-- a soldier in our war--
killing them for (us),
NOW-- he’s without food to feed his hunger,
or water to quench his thirst.
With no shelter to come in out from the rain,
Or pillow to dream his dreams on-
-he knows things cant get any worse.
He spends his days, instead of begging
Sifting thru the dumpsters--searching for a meal…
Cuz afterall.. even stripped of riches..
He’s a man and he has his pride -STILL.
And while you see him,
Desperate and lost in his grief..
Thinking of him less as a hero
And more as a thief…
You shake your head in pity
And you let out a sigh
As your legs keep it moving
And you keep walking on by.
You just walk on by…
Just walk on by
Keep walking by
Don’t slow up your walk
Keep walking by
If you stopped--
What you'd see--
Might just make you cry.
So.. walk on by
Just walk on by.
Now as a lost soul,
She stands waiting on the street
Once a young girl with big dreams-
NOW, She’s pulled up her skirt
so that she can compete.
Then- she was a student
with a future bright as the stars
NOW- shes another girl,
hoppin in and out of cars.
Innocence lost,
she traded her dreams for some quick bucks
Given to her by average men,
looking for some quick fucks.
Once, a young beauty
with a soul that couldn’t be broken
NOW, shes another streetwalker,
that’s just been broke in.
And as you pass her ,
you talk to yourself in quiet disgust
“these girls are so nasty, with no self worth-
She probably has AIDS or addicted to drugs”
And while you see her, weak on her knees
you think of her less as our future
And more as a disease....
You shake your head in pity
And let out a sigh
Your legs keep on moving
And you keep walking on by.
You just walk on by…
Just walk on by
Keep walking by
Don’t slow up your walk
Keep walking by
If you stopped--
What you'd see--
Might just make you cry.
So.. walk on by
Just walk on by.
wow.. horrible how the reality really is but its the truth it has to be known.. great write kept me reading and on my toes wondering what would happen next
10z from me :)
this was a sad piece, man. so many people lose everything they've ever loved or accomplished and it's painful to see. wow. touched my heart with this piece.
very nice! it's unfortunate to know that we can just walk on by instead of doing something. Knowing that we're in this together. I'm definitely guilty of just walking on by at times. I do wish I could fix the world but sometimes I too just find my feet moving, I do ignore ish. that cyclone in Mynamar(sp?) I've yet to do anything, even read the article. This is def a eye opening piece cuz we should all try to take our blinders off and see the bigger picture. Much luv!
