"Beat goes on"
  by Blakfiya

Express by B.T. Express .mp3 -
---

They say
I look like my mom
Minus the afro

...same hustle
(and the beat goes on)

as I cruised through
people eating soul food
drinking rum and
coke and Kahlua and
listening to old school
while my daughter
rocked steady
making me smile

…same hustle
(and the beat goes on)

you know I had to
show her how we did it
grabbing my waistband
and rocking side to side
with the little stutter step

had her and her friends laughing
while they gathered ‘round
watching us kin folk get down
till we broke into
the hustle
and I spun her
making time fly

having fun
working off the Itis
with soul train lines
thinking
it gets no better than this

and I hope she remembers
that I boogied

(as the beat goes on)

made me smile... definitely paints a beautiful picture of family! I think it was brilliant that you open with talking about your moms and then your daughter... going into the generations with dances, that's absolutely beautiful! this is a piece to frame.. lol, very nice and very much enjoyed!
